Everything went swimmingly until I was ready to transfer the Drobo storage across from the old system to the new. Now admittedly, I had been getting a bit annoyed with Drobo. But when I installed the Drobo drivers on my new desktop and rebooted … everything fell apart. Until I worked out what was going on, that left me with a few heart-flutters. Oh, and the interface is a little … ugly:. That being said, I can put up with ugly if it works.
As Leonard Cohen once sang, We are ugly, but we have the music. Sure, macOS Catalina is still a steaming pile of happenstance and misadventure, but at least I can patch it again. Most Drobo products have been Out of Stock since the beginning of with fans of Drobo wondering about the lack of communication addressing the shortage and the future of the company. The store on drobo. Drobo had a good story back in its day. For now, I did it the old-fashioned way by mounting both devices and copying using the Finder.
While those exist, the Synologys are computers with applications and lots of fun tools. There are even apps for mobile devices that look really fun. I presume there are equivalent apps for Android as well. That should be hours and hours of entertainment. But before we could dig into the fun of these apps, Steven and I had an important goal: to get syncing going from the Drobo 5N2 to the Synology Disk Station, and hopefully before I go on vacation on Monday. The Drobo 5N2 and Synology do not have a superset of applications that will allow me to sync directly.
The Synology has a backup application called Hyper Backup but we never cracked the code on how to consistently get the Drobo to mount to the Synology and be recognized by Hyper Backup. I was trying to avoid using the current solution, which was to run Chronosync on a Mac mini to keep the two Drobos in sync.
It will be fun to learn with him on this. Hi Alison! Enjoy vacation… Rally. I bet I had to use it 5 times in this message alone. You gave me an idea on the control-T thing to swap characters. Maybe I should do one tip a week so it has time to sink in? It is the fifth comment in the thread. Similar situation here. I have a 5N2 that I use through itunes through windows 10 as a media server.
Whether you are at home or in the office storage expertise is not required to ensure your data is always safe and protected. Inside every Drobo is the revolutionary BeyondRAID storage technology that protects data against a hard drive crash, yet is simple enough for anyone to use. As long as you have more than a single drive in Drobo, all data on Drobo is safe no matter which hard drive fails.
Drobo 5C. Drobo 5D3. Drobo 8D. Drobo 5N2. Drobo Bn. Drobo Bi. Drobo Care. Setup Guide. Drobo Direct Attached Storage DAS Performance If you need to edit high-definition videos, store a large photo library, or protect terabytes of data from a hard drive failure, the Drobo direct attached products deliver the perfect combination of speed, simplicity, expansion, and protection.
Oh well, fingers crossed this all rebuilds so I can at least start copying all of my data onto an external drive which I just purchased and have ready to go…. Data Protection still running almost 24 hours since my last post. I then ran the tool again 5 minutes later and it says 51 hours.
I then ran it again a few minutes later and it reports 62 hours remaining. I am truly confused at this point as it almost seems like nothing is happening - the Drobo Dashboard is either very confused in reporting the estimated time for the data protection to be completed or something is horribly wrong.
I guess there is not a lot I can do but to let it just run at this stage…. If I recall, the average rebuild time for the Gen2 is about 1 day per TB. Thanks for the reply as I could use some support and encouragement here!!!
